Ossie was a stray we found outside a West Texas beer and wine store in 1991. From the moment we met him, we knew he was special. During his time with us, he taught us much about cats. Particularly, he taught us that cats do not mind being on a leash and they like riding in a car. Ossie loved to ride in the car. When we would drive up to our country home in the evenings, he would approach us at the beginning of the driveway and get in the car to ride into the garage with us. On occasion, when he would get in the car, we would drive to Sonic, his favorite restaurant, for a Junior Burger, plain and dry.

Over the years, Ossie traveled with us often and stayed in some of the finest hotels in Texas. Below is a shot of him just waking from a nap while staying in the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio.

During his trips, although he might be very tired, he would rarely, if ever sleep. He was almost always awake, sitting between us. He seemed afraid that we would lose our way. When returning home a way different to what he was used to, he would talk most of the way home to tell us we were not on wrong road.

Ossie died July 26, 2004. It was a Monday. The next Friday, I picked up a six week old Dakota from a friend. Dakota had been rescued from a feral mother in a barn along with his 7 brothers and sisters. He was bottle fed by my friend’s 11 year old girl his entire kittenhood and appears to remember that relationship when he is around children. He definitely prefers children to adults. He spends his Tuesday evenings at a local hospital doing pet therapy and you can tell he responds differently to the children than he does the adults. He is the sweetest cat I have ever had.

2004 was a tough year for us. Prior to losing Ossie, we had unexpectedly lost Fraiser, a long haired tabby. His loss effected us both but we went for several days without saying anything about getting another cat. I returned from one of my frequent trips that summer late one evening to find a little calico kitten in bed with Lois. Ossie was very upset, but C.K. was a welcome addition to the rest of the family. It was difficult to get a good photo of her that summer because she was never still long enough to get one that was not blurred. C.K. is an Alpha cat, and a very intelligent cat. Both C.K. and Dakota have learned to travel with us from very early on in their lives. Both walk on leashes.

It is mostly the result of these travels that we have experienced the products we sell on this site. Everything we sell, we have tested on our own cats and feel that the products will enhance your relationship with your cat.
